Riding the Course Horses: 2018 Masters

This year’s Master’s golf tournament at Augusta National is perhaps the most anticipated golf tournament ever. Tiger Woods looks to be back as a contender. Phil Mickelson is playing as well as ever. All of the best players in the world are in the field – and they are all playing well.

Course history is a big consideration at any tournament but The Master’s is different. This course is the same every year and the same players seem to perform well each year. The nuances and intricacies of the course don’t normally treat rookies very well. In fact, Fuzzy Zoeller was the last first-timer to win The Master’s when he donned the green jacket in 1979.

Certainly current form is important for any golf tournament but for these four days, course history outweighs form. The Master’s has a way of serving as a sweet-tasting medicine to those who have played well here before but might not be in the best current form.

There are only 87 golfers in the field this week. The top-50 plus ties will make the cut. Additionally, any golfer within 10 strokes of the lead will also make the cut. We could easily see 65-70% of the golfers make the cut. From a DFS perspective getting 6/6 of your golfers through the cut doesn’t guarantee success. You will need golfers to finish high and score points.

Here are the players that I am considering as core plays based upon course history (most recent finishes listed first and prices are from DK)… Continue reading “Riding the Course Horses: 2018 Masters”

FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Wednesday (4/4)

Tonight could be one of the toughest slates of the year. There are only six games on the FanDuel main slate. With this being the last week of the season, it is tough enough trying to figure out which players are going to play but to make it even more difficult, 10 of the 12 teams in action tonight are on back-to-backs. Of the five games with a Vegas line at the time of this writing, the Memphis-New Orleans game has the highest projected score of 216. The Lakers-Spurs game has not yet been assigned a line, but it should be the highest on the slate.

As far as salaries go, Anthony Davis  is far and away the stud of the evening with a $12,600 price tag. Andre Drummond  is second at $10,000. There are three players in the 9k range. You will want to decide whether you will be jamming Davis into your lineups or playing more of a balanced roster.

If you want to play Davis or any of the other stars tonight, then you’ll need to find some salary relief to fit them into your roster. This is the time of year when plenty of value tends to open up. The only question is who that will be and when will you know who to play. Sometimes the news comes later in the day as to which players will sit and which bench players will get their chance to shine.

Here are 10 value plays that are worth considering as you set your lineup for tonight’s slate of games. Remember to check the news and injury reports, especially in the 30 minutes prior to lock. Use all the information available to make the best decision possible for your lineup. Good luck and have fun!

FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Wednesday (3/28)

There are 8 games on the FanDuel main slate tonight but only four of the games have been assigned a line as of this writing. That is not entirely unusual since this is the time of the year when there is so much news about injuries and players sitting. Vegas tends to wait longer to set the lines for the games. Of the four, the Cleveland-Charlotte game has the highest projected total at 229.5.

As far as salaries go, Lebron James is the king of the night with his $12,500 price tag. He is nearly 2k more than the second highest priced player, Karl-Anthony Towns. You will need to decide if you will be forcing this exorbitant salary into your lineups. He burned a lot of people last night but had also won them a lot of money in the previous couple of weeks as he dominated the NBA and DFS. Whether you play Lebron or not, there is plenty of star power on this slate as 11 players are priced at $8,500 or above.

If you want to play any of these studs tonight then you’ll need to find some salary relief to fit them into your roster. This is the time of the year when plenty of value tends to open up. The only question is who will that be and when will you know who to play. Sometimes the news comes later in the day as to which players will sit and which bench players will get their chance to shine.

Normally, I only give nine value plays, but the Point Guard position could be very interesting tonight so you get a bonus. FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Wednesday (3/21)

There are 8 games on the FanDuel main slate tonight with at least half of the games projected for 220+ points. The Raptors-Cavs game has a 226.5 total with Toronto on a back-to-back. The Clippers-Bucks game has a 226 total with Los Angeles also being on a back-to-back.

Six players are priced at $10,000 or higher with Lebron James having the highest price tag of $12,800. If you want to play James, Anthony DavisGiannis Antetokounmpo, or any of the other studs tonight then you’ll need to find some salary relief to fit them into your roster.

FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Wednesday (3/14)

There are only 4 games on the FanDuel main slate tonight. It doesn’t look to be a slate filled with fantasy goodness and there are a lot of question marks. Only two players are priced at $9,000 or above with Giannis Antetokounmpo  leading the way at $12,000k and Kevin Durant at $10,500. With only two studs on the slate, it might seem that we don’t need to find as much value as normal. However, if you don’t play the Greek Freak and/or Durant, you might find yourself way behind to start with in terms of raw points.

We usually look at our value plays as players at $5,000 and below. That is going to be difficult to find many of those tonight. Roster construction will be interesting as you’ll need to decide what you’ll do with the two studs. If you choose a balanced approach, you will be able to fit nearly all of the other top-priced players in your lineup with the exception of 1-2 value plays.

Here are 9 plays that are worth considering as you set your lineup for tonight’s slate of games. Remember to check the news and injury reports, especially in the 30 minutes prior to lock.
